In 1718 het hy hier as soldaat aangekom en hy is in 1723 deur die H.O.I.K. as boerkneg

aan Valentin Kleinveld uitgeleen. Die volgende jaar het hy burger geword en as kleremaker

op Stellenbosch gewoon. Later het hy hom te Paarl gevestig.

GROBBELAAR

Johan (Wilhelm) GROBLER is die STAMVADER van alle GROBLERS EN GROBELAARS in Suid Afrika.

Hy het 11 kinders gehad. Die 9de en 11de kinders nl. Coert en Cornelis (seuns) het hulself

GROBBELAAR genoem inplaas van GROBLER. Dit is van hierdie twee seun waaruit die

hele GROBBELAAR familie hul oorsprong het.

1. Johann (Wilhelm) GROBLERwas born on 10 Oct 1678 in Tangermunde Germany and died on an unknown date in Kaap South Africa.

Algemene notas: StamvaderJohan GROBLER (GROBBELAAR) was born 10 0ctober 1678 in Tangermünde, a town 100 km west from Berlin, Germany. He came to South Africa in about 1708. He was then in the service of the VOC and was employed as a woodcutter and later as a transport driver. We find him in 1712 in the service of Christiaan Maasdorp as a farm labourer. He became a free burger in 1715 and in the same year he married Geertruyd KNOESEN who was baptised on 11 July 1706 daughter of stamvader Cornelis Knoetzen and Dirkje Helms. On 3 June 1736 Geertruyd married stamvader Jan Jurgen Herman (also known as Hans Jurgen Herman(n) from Stuttgart), two months and 3 days after the birth of her youngest son - eleventh child Cornelis Grobler.

Vryburger in 1715; trou dieselfde jaar met Geertruyd Knoetzen, ged 11.7.1706 (11 kinders) dv Cornelis Knoetzen en Dirkje Helmes (sy xx 3.7.1736 Hans Jurgen Herman)

Johann married Geertruyd KNOETZEN, daughter of Cornelis KNOETZEN and Dirkje HELM, on 11 Jul 1714 in Stellenbosch. Geertruyd was born in 1697 in Holland, was baptised on 11 Jul 1706 in Drakenstein, and died in 1761 in Drakenstein at age 64.
